Job DescriptionUniversity of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking a PET Technologist (MRI Technologist) to support clinical and research PET imaging operations, including an integrated PET/MRI program, within the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. This position will perform PET imaging procedures for clinical and research studies and assist in the implementation and execution of imaging protocols involving PET and PET/MRI. The technologist will work closely with physicians, physicists, technologists, and research staff to ensure high-quality imaging data acquisition and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Opportunities for training in MRI to support PET/MRI operations will be provided.
Flexibility in work schedule including working on some weekends with appropriate time off during weekdays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Perform clinical and research PET imaging procedures, including patient preparation, radiopharmaceutical administration in accordance with regulatory standards, data acquisition, image reconstruction, and data archiving.
• Operate PET/MRI systems for both clinical and research studies. Candidates with PET experience will receive training to support PET/MRI operations and MRI safety procedures.
• Conduct routine quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures for PET imaging systems and related equipment to ensure optimal performance and regulatory compliance.
• Assist in the coordination and execution of clinical and research imaging studies, including subject scheduling, screening, and protocol adherence.
• Collaborate with physicians, physicists, research staff, and technologists to implement imaging protocols and ensure high-quality imaging data acquisition.
• Maintain accurate documentation of imaging procedures, study data, and regulatory requirements in accordance with institutional and research standards.
• Assist with data management activities including image transfer, archiving, and verification of imaging datasets.
• Participate in training of students, technologists, and research staff on PET and PET/MRI imaging procedures as needed.
• Support daily operational activities including equipment monitoring, inventory management, and ordering of imaging supplies.
• Ensure strict adherence to radiation safety, MRI safety, infection control, and institutional policies within the PET and PET/MRI environment.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate's degree or higher in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiologic Technology, or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of related clinical research experience, preferably in PET.
Preferred Experience: Experience in PET or nuclear medicine imaging preferred. Experience with hybrid imaging systems (PET/CT or PET/MRI) and/or research imaging environments is a plus.
Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in Nuclear Medicine Technology required.
Preferred:
• Clinical or research experience in PET imaging
• Interest in cross-training to support PET/MRI imaging operations
• Magnetic Resonance (MR) registry or prior MRI experience
• PET registry
• Prior training related to occupational safety and health, infection control, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials, and/or ionizing radiation safety.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of PET or nuclear medicine imaging procedures, including radiopharmaceutical handling, image acquisition, and quality control procedures.
• Familiarity with hybrid imaging systems (PET/CT or PET/MRI) and willingness to learn MRI procedures and MRI safety practices.
• Knowledge of regulatory, safety, and compliance requirements related to clinical imaging and research studies, including radiation safety and human subject research protocols.
• Ability to follow and implement clinical and research imaging protocols with attention to detail and data quality.
• Skill in basic data management, including image archiving, verification, and use of spreadsheet or database software.
• Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, physicists, technologists, and research staff in a collaborative clinical and research environment.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with institutional and research standards.
• Ability to assist in the coordination and execution of clinical and research imaging studies.
• Ability to perform venipuncture for radiotracer administration and contrast-related imaging studies in accordance with institutional policies.
HIRING RANGE: $99,000 - $109,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)
