Company Profile

Samaritan Medical Center

Company Overview

Samaritan Medical Center, based in Watertown, NY, is a 290-bed not-for-profit community hospital and the largest employer in the region, serving civilian and military populations since 1881. It provides a full spectrum of inpatient, outpatient, and specialized services, including cancer care, behavioral health, and emergency care.

Company History

Founded in 1881 as The House of the Good Samaritan, Samaritan Medical Center began with a mission to provide compassionate medical care to all, especially those without financial means. Established by local clergy and community members in Watertown, the hospital started in a small rented house with just five beds and treated 33 patients in its first year. As medical care evolved and demand grew, the hospital expanded its services and staff to serve the wider community.

Today, Samaritan Medical Center is a 290-bed regional medical center serving Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties. While it has grown significantly since its humble beginnings, Samaritan continues to uphold its founding mission of delivering high-quality, safe, and compassionate healthcare to both civilian and military communities.
